Manchester United Targets Antoine Semenyo Amid Transfer Buzz
Manchester United is preparing to pursue Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo in the upcoming January transfer window. The club’s head coach, Ruben Amorim, indicated that any transfer decisions will focus on long-term benefits rather than immediate fixes. Semenyo, who has a £65 million release clause in his contract, is expected to attract significant interest from several Premier League clubs, including Manchester City, Liverpool, and Tottenham Hotspur.
The transfer window opens in January, and the clause in Semenyo’s contract is only active for a limited period, allowing Bournemouth time to find a suitable replacement for their star player. Amorim described Semenyo as a “special player” following United’s thrilling 4-4 draw against Bournemouth on December 4, where the Ghanaian forward scored his seventh goal of the season.
Semenyo’s versatility makes him an attractive option for United. He can operate as a traditional forward or even as a wing-back, which could provide tactical flexibility for the team. Despite the intense competition, United is motivated to secure his services, especially with three players departing for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) next month.
Amorim clarified that while United will pursue potential signings in January, their strategy remains focused on building a strong foundation for the future. “The only thing that we know is that we only would try to bring players that we think are going to be the future,” he stated. The coach emphasized that any moves made next month would not merely aim to address short-term gaps caused by player absences.
The club’s long-term vision includes a midfield overhaul slated for 2026. However, the urgency surrounding Semenyo’s potential departure from Bournemouth has prompted United to accelerate their interest. Amorim acknowledged this shift in strategy, stating, “It’s not going to be to save something in this moment, to cope with the losses of three players for AFCON. It’s not going to be like that.”
As the January transfer window approaches, Manchester United’s pursuit of Semenyo reflects the club’s commitment to enhancing its squad while keeping an eye on future prospects. With the competition heating up, the coming weeks will be crucial in determining whether United can successfully secure the signing of the talented forward.
