Piers Morgan Reveals Jeremy Clarkson Punch Incident and Family Fury
Piers Morgan recently recounted a dramatic incident involving television presenter Jeremy Clarkson, where Clarkson allegedly punched him in the head. In an interview, Morgan described how his reaction to the altercation left his brother, an army colonel, feeling “enraged.” This revelation is part of Morgan’s ongoing discussions about his public persona and relationships.
The altercation took place during The British Press Awards in 2004. Morgan noted that the conflict stemmed from Clarkson’s request, when he was married to Frances Cain, for Morgan, then the editor of the Daily Mirror, not to publish photographs of him with another woman. Despite this plea, Morgan published the images, which led to the confrontation.
Morgan recalled the specifics of the incident, stating, “It was only when he hit me for the third time that I said, ‘Is that it? My three-year-old hits me harder than that.’” He also mentioned that Clarkson unintentionally injured himself, stating, “He broke his little finger hitting my head,” which Morgan claimed remains “disfigured and mashed up” as a consequence of the incident.
Despite the physical confrontation, Morgan did not retaliate against Clarkson, which he later described as a decision that frustrated his brother. “My brother was absolutely enraged that I’d just allowed Clarkson to hit me, and I hadn’t hit him back,” Morgan said. He further explained that he refrained from responding because he wanted to avoid jeopardizing his career, a choice he later reflected on with a sense of irony, noting he was fired three weeks later.
Reflections and Reconciliation
In the years following the incident, Morgan and Clarkson reportedly spent a decade exchanging jibes and insults. However, according to Morgan, they have since reconciled their differences. Clarkson himself addressed the altercation in a 2022 article for The Times, where he described the event and acknowledged his own role in escalating the situation. “I punched him. And then I punched him again,” Clarkson stated, humorously adding that he didn’t think it would “ever get boring.”
In more recent news, Morgan found himself in a separate controversy after swearing during a live appearance on the morning show This Morning. During a debate, he used the term “bulls**t,” immediately recognizing his mistake and apologizing on air. Following the incident, the show’s host, Ben Shephard, remarked, “I think it might be longer” than three weeks before Morgan is invited back.
The revelations surrounding the Clarkson-Morgan altercation and Morgan’s recent blunder illustrate the complexities of public personas and the challenges of maintaining decorum in high-pressure environments. As both figures continue to navigate the media landscape, their past conflicts serve as a reminder of the sometimes tumultuous nature of celebrity relationships.
