Ryan Giggs Advocates for Kobbie Mainoo to Stay at Manchester United

Former Manchester United player Ryan Giggs has expressed his desire for young midfielder Kobbie Mainoo to remain with the club as a crucial transfer deadline approaches. But I would have more patience because he is only 20, and it is difficult to play centre midfield for Man United.” He further elaborated on the challenges young players face, noting, “You don’t see many really young strikers playing for Man United because it is difficult.”

While acknowledging that Mainoo should be receiving more playing time, Giggs emphasized the importance of patience. “He’s still young, he’s still learning the game. When he does get his chance, he needs to take it. So I’d like to see him stay,” he added.

Michael Carrick’s Vision for Mainoo

Carrick appears to have a clear vision for how to utilize Mainoo effectively within the squad. In a conversation with former United player Rio Ferdinand in September, Carrick described Mainoo as “more of an attacker” rather than a holding midfielder. He stated, “He needs a little bit more freedom. He can defend the higher line, but I think that bit deeper, around the centre-backs, that’s a bit of a different thing completely.”

Carrick’s comments suggest that he sees Mainoo playing in a more advanced role, potentially creating opportunities rather than solely focusing on defensive duties. “I think he’s got a massive future. I really like him; he just needs that patience and a little bit of a break again,” Carrick noted.
