Ryan Moloney Opens Up on ADHD in Celebrity SAS Interrogation
Ryan Moloney, known for his role as Toadie in the long-running Australian soap opera Neighbours, revealed his struggles with ADHD during an emotional segment on the reality series Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins. The episode aired on January 5, 2024, showcasing the challenges Moloney faced as a contestant representing Team Australia.
In this opening episode, Moloney emerged as a key figure within the camp, often directing fellow recruits on essential tasks such as refilling water bottles and preparing for upcoming challenges. His proactive approach caught the attention of the show’s Directing Staff, who expressed concern about his intense drive. They decided to bring him into the interrogation room to delve deeper into his experiences.
During the interrogation, Moloney candidly shared his feelings about the competition. He described experiencing “periods of fear,” fluctuating between confidence and anxiety while trying to adapt to the demanding environment. Reflecting on his upbringing, he noted the unique pressures of joining Neighbours at the age of 15 and remaining part of the cast for three decades.
Moloney explained, “It’s a very hectic time when you go to work and you’re in this headspace for 12 hours and then you go home and try to do family life.” He admitted that balancing his professional and personal responsibilities left little room for respite.
The actor recounted a particularly difficult phase in his life when he questioned his purpose. He stated, “I just haven’t really had a break and nothing is ever good enough.” This period of self-reflection led him to pursue a diagnosis for his mental health struggles, ultimately resulting in an ADHD diagnosis.
When asked about the impact of his diagnosis, Moloney expressed relief: “Once I got that diagnosis, that’s the best f***ing news I’ve ever heard because now I understand why my brain does what it does.” His experience sheds light on the importance of mental health awareness, especially in high-pressure environments like reality television.
As the season progresses, viewers can expect more intense challenges for the celebrity recruits. The show’s promotional material hints at rising tensions, stating, “As bonds snap, egos shatter, and recruits are pushed so far past their limits they forget they ever had any.” The ultimate question remains whether any of these stars will manage to endure the physically demanding and psychologically taxing course, and which team will emerge victorious.
Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins continues to air on Mondays at 21:00 GMT on Channel 4, inviting audiences to witness the unfolding journey of its contestants. For those interested in further entertainment coverage, options are available through various platforms, including the Radio Times Podcast.
