Three Sisters Take Fatal Leap After Parents Limit Phones
Tragedy struck in Bharat City, Ghaziabad, as three sisters—Pakhi (12), Prachi (14), and Vishika (16)—jumped to their deaths from the ninth floor of their apartment building. This heart-wrenching incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, when the girls reportedly took their own lives after their parents restricted their access to mobile phones.
According to police reports, the sisters had developed an intense obsession with a Korean mobile game and K-Pop culture. After their parents confiscated their devices, the girls gathered on the balcony and tragically leapt one by one, while their parents attempted to reach them through a locked door.
Witnesses in the area reported hearing desperate screams, but by the time help arrived, it was too late. The parents discovered an eight-page letter detailing the girls’ emotions and frustrations about the limitations imposed on them. In the note, they expressed their belief that their parents did not understand their love for Korean culture, stating, “How will you make us leave Korean? Korean was our life, so how dare you make us leave our life?”
The police indicated that the family had been struggling with the sisters’ gaming addiction, which had escalated since they stopped attending school nearly two years ago. Investigators believe the recent restriction on screen time may have been a catalyst for their drastic actions. Authorities are currently examining the girls’ devices and diaries to better understand the nature of the game that captivated their attention.
Impact of the Pandemic on Children’s Lives
The COVID-19 pandemic has played a significant role in increasing children’s isolation and reliance on digital entertainment. In their note, the sisters also mentioned their grievances about their fourth sister, Devu, being introduced to Bollywood culture, which they rejected. They stated, “We felt bad about this, so we made a decision and made Devu our enemy, because no one at home allowed her to be like us.”
This incident raises pressing concerns about the influence of digital media on young minds. Their father, Chetan Kumar, expressed profound grief, stating, “Neither a parent nor a child should experience this. Children shouldn’t be allowed to play such games. I would never have allowed them if I had known.”
The tragic deaths of these three sisters have not only shattered their family but have also sparked discussions on parental control, mental health, and the potential dangers of excessive screen time. As investigations continue, this heartbreaking case serves as a reminder of the critical balance between technology and parenting in today’s digital era.
