Two Shoplifters Banned from Major Retailers in Gloucestershire

Two individuals have received bans from several major retailers in Gloucestershire following their convictions for theft. Lauren Holland, aged 41, and Verity Lulay, 35, both residents of Pomona Place in Hereford, were issued Criminal Behaviour Orders (CBO) by Hereford Magistrates’ Court after a series of offences that significantly impacted local businesses.

Holland faced multiple charges, including five counts of theft and one count of criminal damage. On November 5, 2023, she was sentenced to 13 weeks in prison, although the term was suspended for two years. Additionally, she was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £154. The CBO prohibits her from entering specific shops, including Boots and Tesco, for the next three years.

Lulay’s court appearance followed shortly after on November 13, 2023. She was convicted of one count of theft and received an 18-week suspended sentence for a period of 18 months. Like her counterpart, Lulay was also issued a three-year CBO, restricting her access to several retail locations in the area.

The actions of these two women have drawn significant attention from local law enforcement. Police Sergeant Duncan Reynolds, representing the Hereford City Centre team, expressed satisfaction with the court’s decision. He stated, “We welcome the court’s decision to issue Criminal Behaviour Orders to these two individuals, whose repeated thefts have significantly affected local shops and businesses and caused distress to the public.”

The CBOs are intended to deter further criminal activity by these individuals within the designated areas. Authorities urge the public to report any breaches of these orders immediately by calling 101, emphasizing the community’s role in maintaining safety and supporting local businesses.
