Price Confident Ahead of World Grand Prix Clash with Littler

Gerwyn Price expressed strong confidence as he prepares for a highly anticipated quarter-final match against Luke Littler at the World Grand Prix on Friday night. Price, who previously defeated Josh Rock with a decisive 3-0 victory, aims to reclaim the Grand Prix title he last held in 2020. Littler, on the other hand, also advanced to the quarter-finals with a similar scoreline against defending champion Mike De Decker in Leicester, finishing his match with a stunning 170 checkout.
Price, known for his competitive spirit, stated, “I am not scared of anybody. I am here to win.” He acknowledged the challenge posed by Littler, who has been performing well throughout the tournament. “If I put him under pressure, it will be a good game,” Price added. He emphasized that his main focus is on his own performance rather than on his opponent. “I play the board, not the player. I know if I play my A-game, nine times out of ten I will win.”
In the lead-up to the quarter-final, Price noted the pressure that other players may feel when facing Littler, comparing it to the past dominance of Phil Taylor. He remarked, “All the other players are scared of him before they get on the board.” Price is determined to deliver his best game and maintain his focus.
Meanwhile, Luke Humphries, currently ranked world number one, is set to face unseeded Scottish player Cameron Menzies, who has made an impressive run by defeating Chris Dobey and Rob Cross in previous rounds. Humphries commented on Menzies’ unpredictable playing style, saying, “Sometimes he’s just unplayable, but sometimes he’s just not there.” He plans to prepare for Menzies’ best performance to avoid any surprises.
Menzies, who left his plumbing job just five months ago to pursue darts full-time, reflected on his journey thus far. “I never thought I would get this far, so maybe I need to start believing in myself,” he stated. The 36-year-old, who won Players Championship 11 in April, expressed a desire to remain grounded and focused on his performance, acknowledging the rise of young talent in the sport.
In another quarter-final match, Gary Anderson will compete against the often underrated Dutch player Danny Noppert. Anderson praised Noppert’s consistency, saying, “If you give him a sniff, he’s going to take it.” He acknowledged Noppert’s ability to perform well under pressure, despite not always posting high averages.
Former champion Jonny Clayton is also in the mix, aiming for a stronger performance against Dirk van Duijvenbode. Clayton described his path to the quarter-finals as a “wake-up call,” recognizing the need for improvement in his game. He is aware of the challenge posed by van Duijvenbode, who reached the final in 2020 and is returning to strong form.
The quarter-finals of the World Grand Prix are set to take place on Friday, with matches starting at 19:00 local time. Fans can catch all the action live on Sky Sports, which is the home of major darts events including the World Matchplay, Grand Slam of Darts, and World Championship. The excitement continues to build as top players vie for the coveted title.
