Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timi Frank, has urged Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to dismiss the nation’s security chiefs amid rising violence and killings across the country. His comments follow the recent deaths of soldiers in Borno State attributed to suspected Boko Haram insurgents, highlighting a deteriorating security situation that Frank describes as a national tragedy requiring immediate action.

In a statement, Frank expressed profound concern about the ongoing killings of Nigerians, stating that citizens are being killed “like chickens” daily across various regions. He emphasized that the current security architecture has failed under the present administration, citing inadequate funding and lack of appropriate equipment for the military and police forces.

“Our soldiers and policemen are dying in large numbers due to poor funding and lack of proper equipment. Despite massive budgetary allocations to the security sector, the funds do not reach the men and women on the front lines,” Frank said. He pointed out that these issues contribute to the escalating insecurity that has captured the attention of the international community.

Frank commended U.S. President Donald Trump and Senator Ted Cruz for their advocacy concerning the violence in Nigeria. He noted their willingness to speak out against the killings, which he described as a necessary action that has drawn attention to the plight of Nigerians.

“We commend President Trump for his concern and moral courage in speaking against the killings of Nigerians. We equally commend Senator Cruz for lending his voice to these injustices,” he stated. Frank, who also serves as the United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP) Ambassador to East Africa and the Middle East, urged the U.S. government and other international partners to pressure the Nigerian administration to release Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Frank criticized the government for negotiating with terrorists while innocent citizens remain detained, calling for immediate intervention from the international community. He implored President Tinubu to prioritize the release of Kanu, drawing parallels to Trump’s leadership in facilitating negotiations for the release of hostages in Gaza.

The statement also praised activist Omoyele Sowore for his efforts in advocating for Kanu’s unconditional release. Frank emphasized the significance of maintaining good relations between Nigeria and the United States, stating, “We will not allow any government or individuals to destroy that friendship. As Nigerians, we remain committed to strengthening our ties with the U.S. in the interest of peace, democracy, and global security.”

He criticized the Nigerian Senate for its response to Cruz’s remarks about the killings, labeling their reaction as a “disgrace and disappointment.” Frank argued that if the Senate had fulfilled its constitutional mandate of oversight and representation, the situation would not have escalated to the point where international figures felt compelled to speak out.

“If the National Assembly had diligently checked executive recklessness, such as the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu, Senator Cruz would not have had to highlight Nigeria as an example of unwarranted attacks and killings,” he concluded, underscoring the need for accountability in safeguarding the lives and properties of Nigerians.

As the situation develops, the calls for reform in Nigeria’s security leadership and the release of detained political figures remain critical issues resonating both domestically and internationally.
