R&B Legend D’Angelo Passes Away at 51 After Cancer Battle
The music world is mourning the loss of R&B icon D’Angelo, who passed away at the age of 51 in New York City after a prolonged battle with pancreatic cancer. His family confirmed the news, stating that he departed this life on October 14, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of profound musical influence.
In a heartfelt statement shared with the media, the family expressed their sorrow: “The shining star of our family has dimmed his light for us in this life. After a prolonged and courageous battle with cancer, we are heartbroken to announce that Michael D’Angelo Archer, known to his fans around the world as D’Angelo, has been called home.” They reflected on the impact he had on their lives and the music industry, adding, “We are saddened that he can only leave dear memories with his family, but we are eternally grateful for the legacy of extraordinarily moving music he leaves behind.”
D’Angelo emerged onto the music scene with his debut album, Brown Sugar, in 1995, quickly establishing himself as a leading figure in the R&B genre. Over the years, he collaborated with prominent artists including Jay-Z, Lauryn Hill, and Snoop Dogg, further solidifying his place in music history.
His talent was recognized with multiple accolades, including four Grammy Awards. He notably won the award for Best R&B Album twice, first in 2001 and again in 2016. His unique style and soulful voice resonated with fans worldwide, making him a beloved figure in contemporary music.
