A three-year-old girl is critically ill after reportedly being left unattended in a hotel swimming pool in Lardos, Rhodes. The incident occurred around midday when the child was discovered in the water by a sunbather who intervened to save her life. Local authorities have stated that the girl entered the pool alone, and it was approximately ten minutes before she was noticed.

According to police, the woman who rescued the child is believed to be a British doctor. Upon noticing the girl in distress, she jumped into the pool, pulled her out, and immediately began administering CPR while alerting emergency services. Medical personnel arrived promptly and worked to stabilize the child before transporting her to Rhodes Hospital in a critical condition.

Emergency Response and Medical Treatment

Upon arrival at the hospital, the girl was reported to be “not reacting at all,” according to Michalis Sokorelos, the director of Rhodes Hospital. The child was subsequently airlifted to the University Hospital in Heraklion, Crete, where neurosurgeons performed an emergency procedure to relieve pressure on her brain. She remains in the intensive care unit as medical teams continue to monitor her condition.

Following the incident, Rhodes police arrested the girl’s uncle, who was responsible for supervising her, as well as the travel agency manager in charge of overseeing hotel guests. Both individuals were taken into custody approximately two hours after the incident and have since been presented before the Rhodes District Court Prosecutor, facing charges related to the neglect of the child.

The UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office is providing support to the girl’s family and is maintaining communication with Greek authorities regarding the situation.

As the family navigates this distressing time, the community is left in shock over the events that unfolded at the hotel pool. The investigation continues as authorities seek to understand the circumstances leading to this tragic incident.
