Cody “Beef” Franke, a prominent golf instructor and content creator for Barstool Sports’ popular podcast, Fore Play, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 31. His death occurred over the weekend following a sudden medical emergency while attending a wedding in the Dominican Republic. The Fore Play team expressed their devastation in their statement: “We are beyond devastated to announce that our good friend and cherished Barstool Sports colleague, Cody ‘Beef’ Franke, passed away from a sudden medical issue over the weekend. Cody truly loved the game of golf. He selflessly spent much of his life helping others improve and enjoy the game.”
Franke’s journey from a dedicated PGA professional to a beloved social media personality was marked by his infectious humor and passion for golf. He served as the Head Golf Professional at various clubs in Wisconsin and California, where he built a reputation for his engaging teaching style and charismatic personality.
Colleague Dan “Big Cat” Katz described the news as “really, really, really sad. Really tragic.” This sentiment reflects the profound impact Franke had on those around him, both personally and professionally. His commitment to the sport was evident in his swing tips, entertaining one-club challenge videos, and a unique personal touch: always removing his hat before shaking hands, demonstrating his respect and character.
Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy shared a heartfelt tribute, stating: “Barstool lost a member of our family this weekend. Just tragic news. You will never find a nicer, more genuine person than Beef. … Another cruel reminder that tomorrow is never promised.”
