Author Reveals Prince Andrew’s Past Misconduct Shielded by Queen
According to a recent interview, Prince Andrew allegedly escaped accountability for his misconduct due to his close relationship with his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II. Andrew Lownie, author of Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York, discussed the former royal’s actions on NewsNation, claiming that Andrew brought prostitutes to Buckingham Palace on a regular basis. Lownie contends that despite staff awareness of these activities, no action was taken due to Andrew’s perceived protection from the Queen.
Lownie stated that security personnel were aware of the situation but were instructed to remain silent to keep their jobs. He emphasized that the Queen was informed of her son’s behaviour yet chose not to intervene, attributing this inaction to Andrew being her “favourite son.” “He got away with everything,” Lownie remarked, adding that these issues were “brushed under the rug” until now.
Historical Context of Andrew’s Relationship with the Queen
Several royal experts have echoed Lownie’s claims regarding Andrew’s status as the Queen’s favourite. Author Clive Irving noted in his book, The Last Queen, that “Andrew could do little wrong in his mother’s eyes.” Furthermore, journalist Christopher Andersen, in his book Brothers and Wives: Inside the Private Lives of William, Kate, Harry, and Meghan, discussed the implications of King Charles’ recent decisions regarding Andrew. Andersen argued that had the Queen still been alive, stripping Andrew of his royal privileges would have been unthinkable.
Andersen suggested that King Charles faced a difficult choice, acknowledging that such a decision would have caused distress for the late Queen. “She would never subject her favourite son to such a fate, not ever,” he said, highlighting the protective role the Queen played in Andrew’s life.
The Aftermath of Queen Elizabeth II’s Passing
Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022, Andrew’s situation changed dramatically. In October, King Charles officially removed all royal privileges from his brother. This decision was described as a “family decision,” with Queen Camilla and other senior royals, including Prince William and Kate Middleton, reportedly supporting the monarch’s stance. Insiders noted that Charles, who is perceived as more decisive in dealing with family controversies, aimed to distance himself from the challenges posed by Andrew’s past.
The palace has since clarified that Andrew will no longer be addressed as “Prince Andrew” or “His Royal Highness.” Furthermore, he has been ordered to vacate Royal Lodge, where he resided for the past 20 years. This shift marks a significant change in the royal family’s dynamics, particularly in how they handle controversies.
As the fallout continues, Andrew’s past actions are likely to remain a topic of discussion, particularly as royal experts and authors scrutinize the implications of the Queen’s protective influence on her son. With King Charles now leading the monarchy, the royal family appears to be taking a firmer stance on accountability and public image.
