Montenegro Supreme Court Extends Detention of Đolović Until January
The Supreme Court of Montenegro has ordered an extension of detention for Stefanu Đolović for an additional three months, lasting until January 1, 2024. This decision follows a proposal from the Higher State Prosecutor’s Office in Podgorica, citing reasonable suspicion that Đolović committed the crime of unauthorized production, possession, and distribution of narcotic drugs.
The court’s ruling, announced on November 26, highlights the serious nature of the allegations against Đolović. Prosecutors allege he was involved in drug trafficking activities during the latter half of August this year, specifically utilizing a hidden compartment in a VW Polo vehicle. Inside this compartment, police discovered approximately 300 grams of cocaine, divided into four packages intended for further distribution.
According to the ruling, Đolović has confessed to the commission of the crime during investigative proceedings. This confession, coupled with the substantial amount of narcotics found, raised concerns regarding the risk of flight, which was a critical factor in the decision to extend his detention.
Initially, Đolović was placed in custody on September 2, following a decision by the investigating judge of the Higher Court in Podgorica. The detention was subsequently extended by the Criminal Council of the same court on September 26.
The Supreme Court emphasized that the current detention could last until the beginning of the new year, reflecting the ongoing legal proceedings against Đolović. As the case develops, authorities will continue to assess the situation, particularly concerning the potential for further legal repercussions related to the trafficking of narcotics in Montenegro.
