The Kano State Government has raised concerns regarding comments made by former Governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin about recent bandit attacks in the region. The state’s Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, conveyed these worries during a press briefing following an Executive Council meeting on October 27, 2023.

Waiya emphasized that the government views these statements as potentially disruptive to the peace in Kano State. He described the remarks as dangerous, asserting that they could instill fear among residents, destabilize local communities, and undermine the collaborative efforts of the Federal and State Governments to ensure security in the area.

The Commissioner pointed out that within 48 hours of Ganduje’s and Jibrin’s comments, suspected bandits infiltrated several border communities in Kano. This incident has sparked concerns regarding whether these remarks were intentionally timed or connected to the subsequent attacks.

Waiya referred to the statements made by both leaders as unwelcome and a threat to public safety. He stated that such comments could encourage further banditry and called upon security agencies to take appropriate action against the two leaders from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In related news, Ganduje has proposed a plan aimed at rehabilitating the 12,000 Hisbah officers who were dismissed by the current Kano State Government under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. This initiative may lead to the establishment of an independent Hisbah Commission to continue addressing religious and moral affairs in the state.

The Kano State Government’s response highlights the increasing tensions surrounding security issues and the potential impact of political rhetoric on public safety. As the situation develops, the government’s focus remains on maintaining peace and stability in the region.
