Woman Transforms Life with Boot Camp, Losing Nearly 9 Pounds in a Week

A week-long boot camp in Kent has dramatically changed the life of Leanne Knowles, who lost nearly 9 pounds without resorting to weight-loss injections. Frustrated by her previous struggles with diets and weight management, Knowles discovered that a focus on lifestyle changes during her holiday was the key to her transformation.
At 5 feet 1 inch tall and weighing 12 stone 9 pounds, Knowles felt self-conscious about her body, especially in swimwear. Her attempts at various diets, including Slimming World and the Atkins diet, yielded little success. She often found herself gaining weight after quitting these plans. With the rise of trendy weight-loss medications like Ozempic and Mounjaro, Knowles was tempted to try them but ultimately felt they would not provide a sustainable solution.
It was a trip to Niagara Falls in Canada that served as her wake-up call. A photo taken by a friend revealed a side of herself she had long tried to hide. At just 28 years old, Knowles was determined to change her lifestyle for good.
Boot Camp Experience Sparks Transformation
Inspired by a television show featuring a “fat camp” retreat, Knowles researched options and found the GI Jane Bootcamp. This military-style program, designed to help women lose weight and get fit, caught her attention. The cost for a week at the camp, located at Scuttington Manor in Sittingbourne, Kent, was £900, which included accommodation and meals.
Despite her initial fears, Knowles was welcomed warmly by trainers and fellow participants. Each woman had her own reasons for attending, creating a supportive environment. The camp’s motto, “You’re only as fast as your slowest man,” fostered camaraderie among the participants.
The daily schedule began with a 7 a.m. wake-up call, followed by hikes and multiple exercise sessions throughout the day. Knowles pushed herself through workouts that included obstacle courses, boxing, and high-intensity interval training. Although she initially struggled, she gradually improved, culminating in a mile run on her final day while carrying weights.
At the end of the week, Knowles was thrilled to discover her weight loss of 9 pounds, a significant achievement compared to the average weight loss of about 2 pounds per week with medications like Mounjaro. More importantly, she felt revitalized and empowered, gaining valuable insights into maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Maintaining Momentum and Future Goals
Upon returning home to Beverley, East Yorkshire, Knowles applied what she had learned at the boot camp. Unable to afford a gym membership, she purchased her own kettlebell and began running around her local area. She also connected with fellow participants through a WhatsApp group, receiving ongoing support and sharing advice.
Nine months later, Knowles attended another GI Jane Bootcamp, this time in Koh Samui, Thailand. By then, she had already lost additional weight, reaching 8 stone 11 pounds. During the retreat, she achieved her target weight of 8 stone 7 pounds. Overall, she has shed more than four stone and has transformed into a confident size 8.
Since her initial experience, Knowles has participated in multiple boot camps, including a recent week in Greece. These experiences have not only improved her physical health but have also enriched her life with friendships from around the globe.
Reflecting on her journey, Knowles emphasizes the importance of sustainable lifestyle changes over quick fixes. She encourages anyone considering weight-loss medications to explore alternatives like boot camps first, as they offer not just weight loss but also a supportive community and a renewed sense of self.
