Plans are underway for a new outdoor gym at Riverside Park in Llangollen, aimed at promoting health and wellbeing within the community. The project, funded by the Shared Prosperity Transitional Year, will be coordinated by Denbighshire County Council’s Streetscene department.

The outdoor gym will be situated behind the existing skate park, with work set to include the removal of a hedge row, landscaping, and the installation of various pieces of outdoor gym equipment. In addition, plans involve the removal of an existing hedge row near the picnic area, along with the installation of bow top fencing, a pedestrian access gate, and an accessible picnic bench.

Enhancing Community Spaces

This development follows a series of improvements at Riverside Park that have taken place over the past few years. These enhancements include the addition of a bespoke nine-hole mini-golf course and new play equipment for children.

Cllr Barry Mellor, Denbighshire County Council’s Lead Member for Environment and Transport, expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating, “We are pleased to be able to continue improvements along this fantastic area at Llangollen through the funding we have been able to access. This work will complement areas that have already undergone improvement at Riverside Park through the direction of Streetscene to further enhance this important part of the town for both the enjoyment of residents and those visiting Llangollen.”

Looking Ahead

The outdoor gym is part of a broader initiative to create healthier public spaces and encourage physical activity among residents. By improving Riverside Park, the council aims to foster a vibrant community environment, benefiting both locals and tourists.

As the project progresses, updates will be provided to keep the community informed about the timeline and specifics of the construction activities. The introduction of the outdoor gym is expected to further enhance the attractiveness of Riverside Park, making it a key destination for recreational activities in Llangollen.
