Gogglebox Star Helena Worthington Announces Break After Loss
Helena Worthington, a beloved star of Channel 4’s popular series Gogglebox, has announced that she will not participate in the final episode of the current season following the passing of her grandmother. In an emotional Instagram post, Worthington shared her feelings of conflict as she navigates both the joy of expecting a daughter and the grief of losing a cherished family member.
In her heartfelt message, Helena expressed gratitude for reaching a milestone of 20,000 followers on social media, an achievement she knows her late grandmother would have celebrated. She revealed that she is expecting a baby girl in the coming month, a bittersweet moment as she reflects on her grandmother’s absence from this significant life event.
Balancing Joy and Grief
Helena’s grandmother, whom she referred to affectionately as her “legendary nana,” played an influential role in her life. In her post, Worthington shared fond memories, describing her grandmother as a mix of Dame Judi Dench and a character from Catherine Tate’s comedy, known for her wit and humor. Helena recounted stories that showcased her grandmother’s spirited personality, including an incident where she flashed a vicar and humorously stole a neighbor’s dog.
“My nana played such a huge part in my life and loved me fiercely,” Helena wrote. “She never missed an opportunity to tell anyone she met that her daughter and granddaughter were on Gogglebox.” The absence of her grandmother during this special time weighs heavily on Helena. “I know she’ll be part of her in so many ways – in stories, in humour, and in that same strength and warmth,” she added.
As the holiday season approaches, many experience similar grief, which can be especially challenging. Wellness coach Daniel O’Shaughnessy advised individuals to honor their feelings and incorporate traditions that foster connections with lost loved ones. “It’s perfectly okay to have a mix of joy and sadness this season,” he emphasized.
Helena’s Family Life and Future on Gogglebox
Helena Worthington, who is also a mother to a son named Erwin, born in 2019, shared her pregnancy news just days before her grandmother’s passing. In a candid post, she described her experience as “Pregnant. Tired. Raging indigestion.” She shares her children with her partner, fellow artist Danny Waggett, who maintains a presence on Helena’s growing social media platform but does not participate in Gogglebox.
The recent departure of popular cast members Joe and Roisin has left a void for viewers, and Helena’s absence from the final episode may further impact the show’s dynamics. Nonetheless, fans remain hopeful that she will return for the next season alongside familiar faces like Jenny and Lee, the Siddiquis, the Malones, and Giles and Mary.
As Helena navigates this period of profound change, her fans continue to support her, understanding the complexity of celebrating new life while grieving a significant loss.
