Scunthorpe Lights Up: Christmas Festivities Kick Off Across North Lincolnshire

Families in Scunthorpe are set to embrace the festive spirit as the town prepares for its annual Christmas lights switch-on event. Scheduled for November 22, the town centre will transform into a hub of holiday cheer, featuring a variety of entertainment and activities leading up to the much-anticipated countdown.

According to the North Lincolnshire Council, the day’s festivities will commence at 15:30, offering a broad range of free entertainment suitable for all ages. The event will include live music, festive food options, crafts, and performances by roaming entertainers. “It’s a free, feel-good celebration for everyone. Bring your family, bring your friends, and help us light up Scunthorpe this Christmas,” the council stated in a promotional post.

The excitement isn’t limited to Scunthorpe. Other towns in North Lincolnshire are also gearing up for their own Christmas celebrations. On November 28, the town of Brigg will host a large Christmas fair and market, organised by the Brigg Community Partnership and Brigg Town Council. This event promises a delightful blend of indoor and outdoor stalls featuring handcrafted gifts and seasonal treats, as well as children’s rides to keep the young ones entertained. The market will run from 16:00 onwards, making it a prime opportunity for late-night shopping.

Later that same evening, Epworth will kick off its lights switch-on at 18:30, with the beloved figure of Santa Claus making an appearance until 19:00. Community activities based around the Haxey Memorial Hall will also take place, featuring a fairground, stalls, and a festive raffle.

The following day, November 29, promises even more community engagement. The celebrations will begin at 12:00 in Kirton in Lindsey, where families can enjoy a variety of food, drinks, and sweets both inside the Diamond Jubilee Town Hall and the surrounding Market Place. Santa will greet children at 16:00, and the Christmas lights will officially switch on at 17:00 by the Mayor of Kirton in Lindsey, Cllr Hazel Fox, alongside the winners of the children’s races held during the town’s Summer Gala.

On the following weekend, December 6, the village of Belton will hold a lively evening of festivities starting at 16:00. Live music from the duo known as The Whiskey Frogs will entertain attendees, and there will be options for warm refreshments, including mulled wine and wood-fired pizzas. The lights ceremony will commence at 18:30, followed by live music continuing until late.

These events highlight the strong sense of community and the celebration of the festive season across North Lincolnshire. Residents and visitors alike are encouraged to partake in the merriment and enjoy the local culture as the region lights up for Christmas.
