Sixmilewater District Celebrates Twelfth Parade in Glengormley
Members of the Sixmilewater District lodge participated in the annual Twelfth parade in Glengormley on July 8, 2025, braving intense heat to celebrate the event. The parade is part of the wider East Antrim Combine Twelfth celebrations, which are significant in the region’s cultural calendar.
The atmosphere was vibrant as lodge members donned their ceremonial attire, marching proudly through the streets. This year’s event drew considerable attention, capturing the spirit of unity and tradition among participants. The festivities included music, dance, and a display of community spirit, which are hallmarks of the Twelfth celebrations.
Local residents and visitors gathered to witness the spectacle, creating a lively backdrop for the procession. Many expressed their enjoyment and appreciation for the cultural significance of the event. “It’s a fantastic day to see everyone come together, celebrating our heritage,” said one participant.
The parade in Glengormley is one of several held across Northern Ireland, reflecting the region’s rich history. The Twelfth of July marks the anniversary of the Battle of the Boyne, which is commemorated by many as a pivotal moment in Irish and British history.
This year, organizers ensured that safety measures were in place, with adequate hydration stations set up to help attendees cope with the heat. The cooperation among local authorities and community groups was evident, contributing to the parade’s success.
As the procession concluded, participants reflected on the importance of such events in fostering community ties and preserving cultural traditions. The Sixmilewater District’s involvement in the Twelfth parade exemplifies a commitment to celebrating history while engaging with the present.
In the coming days, more events are expected to take place as part of the continued celebrations, highlighting the community’s dedication to honoring its heritage. The East Antrim Combine remains a focal point for those wishing to participate in this annual tradition, with activities planned throughout the month of July.
