Musical Highlights at Wander and MASS MoCA

On the evening of August 16 at 19:00, Wander in Pittsfield will host a Queer Singer Songwriter Night featuring local artists Lily Lothrop and Shannon Lambert. Both musicians, hailing from Western Massachusetts, will share their original music that reflects the complexities and emotions of their twenties. Lothrop’s distinct vocal style and confessional lyrics promise an intimate experience for attendees.

The same evening, MASS MoCA will present the acclaimed vocal ensemble Roomful of Teeth at 20:00. Celebrating their 16th year, the group is known for their innovative sound, blending diverse vocal techniques with multimedia elements. Collaborating with composer William Brittelle, they will workshop “Millennium Rift,” a new song cycle that integrates 1980s-inspired sonic textures. Festivals and Community Celebrations

August 16 is packed with festivals that highlight the rich culture of the Berkshires. The Berkshires Jazz will hold the fourth annual Bousquet Jazz Festival from 16:00 to 21:00 at Bousquet Mountain in Pittsfield. Attendees can enjoy performances by four talented groups, including Rob Putnam’s Good Vibes Organ Trio and Michael Benedict and Bopitude. Guests are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and enjoy food and beverages available for purchase.

Meanwhile, the Norman Rockwell Museum will host the 7th Annual Art of Brewing Festival from 13:00 to 16:00. This celebration of regional craft beverages showcases local breweries, cideries, and distilleries. Attendees aged 21 and older will receive ten tasting tickets, along with a commemorative beer glass. The festival will also highlight the artists behind the beverage packaging, offering a unique insight into the creative process.

In Stockbridge, visitors can attend the 33rd annual Stockbridge Summer Arts and Crafts Show on August 16 and 17. This event features over 85 jury-selected artists displaying their works, including paintings, sculptures, and jewelry. The show runs from 10:00 to 17:00 on Saturday and 10:00 to 16:00 on Sunday, with free admission.

Berkshire Community College will celebrate its 65th anniversary with a Community Fest on August 16 from 10:00 to 16:00. This family-friendly event will include engaging activities like Build-a-Bear workshops, lawn games, and artistic demonstrations. Information about community college programs and financial aid will also be available, enhancing access to education for all attendees.

Finally, the Friends of Great Barrington Libraries will present “OtherWords,” a poetry reading event featuring established poets Brandon Downing, Rachel Blau DuPlessis, and isaiah a. hines at Mason Library from 16:00 to 18:00. This gathering encourages literary appreciation and offers refreshments to attendees.
