Halfords Recalls Children’s Car Seats Over Injury Risks
Halfords has issued an urgent recall for its popular children’s car seat, the Essentials Nyala R129, due to serious safety concerns. The UK retailer, which specializes in motoring and cycling products, is withdrawing two specific batches of these car seats after discovering that they may pose a risk of injuries.
The recall affects children’s seats with batch codes 211X and 223X, as confirmed by the Government’s Office for Product Safety and Standards. Consumers can find these batch codes located on the underside of the Essentials booster chair, which is described as black, forward-facing, featuring a washable cover and a five-point harness system.
A statement on the government’s official website elaborates on the risks, noting, “The affected batches present a risk of injuries as under extreme temperature conditions, the plastic buckle may become deformed. This could compromise the performance of the buckle in the event of an accident.” The statement also indicates that these products do not meet the requirements outlined in the General Product Safety Regulations 2005.
The affected Nyala R129 chairs were manufactured between March 2023 and May 2023 and are identifiable by one of two barcodes: 5057901819229 and 5057901828382.
Customers are urged to stop using the recalled seats immediately and return them to any Halfords store. Upon return, shoppers will receive a full refund without the need for a receipt. The Office for Product Safety and Standards encourages those with questions or seeking more information to visit their website or contact Halfords Customer Services at 0330 135 9779.
In a statement, Halfords explained, “Routine safety testing has identified that under extreme temperature conditions, the buckle on some seats may become deformed. This could compromise the performance of the buckle in the event of an accident.” The company expressed its sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused, emphasizing that the safety and confidence of its customers, along with the quality of its products, is paramount.
For further updates and assistance, customers can also access additional resources through the Halfords website.
