Miss Manchester’s Emotional Campaign Against Puppy Farming

A dog groomer from Oldham, Victoria Quinlan, is using her platform as a beauty queen to raise awareness about the harsh realities of puppy farming. Her journey is fueled by a deeply emotional experience at a breeding facility where puppies are bred for chemical testing. Quinlan’s call to action aims to end the “horrific” practices associated with this industry.

Quinlan visited a protest site outside of MBR Acres, a beagle breeding facility in Cambridgeshire, where she witnessed the distressing conditions in which the dogs live. “You can hear them crying. They’ve never seen daylight,” she said in a video addressing the situation. The emotional turmoil of seeing these animals in captivity has spurred her to take further action.

The visit left her “shocked” to learn that the UK still permits testing on dogs. “The connection between a human and a dog is amazing,” she emphasized, reflecting on the suffering of these animals. The sounds of barking and crying haunted her, as she recalled the moment she stood outside the facility surrounded by a group from Camp Beagle, an animal rights organization dedicated to ending such practices.

Strongly opposed to the use of dogs for testing, Quinlan believes there are alternative methods available for product testing. “They should know that certain things aren’t suitable for humans and find a different way to start testing these products rather than on these innocent dogs,” she stated, advocating for humane treatment of animals.

As part of her campaign, Quinlan will compete in the Miss England finals in November 2025. Leading up to the event, she plans to run 100 miles over the next two months to raise funds for Camp Beagle. Her efforts reflect a commitment not only to her beauty pageant journey but also to bringing attention to a cause she feels passionately about.

Quinlan’s salon, Short Bark & Sides, located on Higginshaw Lane, stands as a testament to her love for dogs. She hopes her participation in the pageant will serve as a platform to shed light on the plight of dogs used in testing facilities.

Supporters can follow Quinlan’s journey and contribute to her fundraising efforts through various campaigns. Her emotional plea highlights the urgent need for change in the practices surrounding puppy breeding and testing, aiming to spark a broader conversation about animal rights in the UK and beyond.
