Podgorica Council Faces Dilemma Over Temporary Structures Program

The City Assembly of Podgorica is set to debate a controversial Program for Temporary Structures today, which has sparked significant political discourse. The proposal includes plans for temporary facilities, such as cafes, in major parks throughout the city. Stefan Ćulafić, a member of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), expressed his concerns regarding the implications of this vote, especially for the Democratic People’s Party (DNP).

Ćulafić emphasized that the DNP’s approval of the program could inadvertently legitimize the construction of a Wastewater Treatment Plant within the Dajbabe area. He argued that this would acknowledge the factual status of the land designated for the plant, thus undermining the political relevance of the anticipated referendum in Zeta.

In his remarks shared on social media, Ćulafić stated, “If the DNP supports this proposed program, they will effectively validate the construction of the plant on the designated parcels.” He further noted that this would diminish the legitimacy of the ongoing political efforts by DNP President M. Knežević and Zeta Municipality President M. Asanović concerning the wastewater facility.

Visual evidence has been shared by Ćulafić, showing the specific parcels earmarked for the treatment plant alongside those designated for the proposed temporary structures. The debate surrounding this program highlights the ongoing tensions between local governance and community interests regarding land use and environmental implications.

As the assembly convenes, the outcome of this vote will not only shape the urban landscape of Podgorica but also have potential repercussions for the political landscape in the surrounding Zeta region. The assembly’s decision could set a precedent for future developments in the area, influencing public opinion and political dynamics moving forward.

The assembly meeting is anticipated to draw significant attention from both local residents and political observers, as the implications of the vote extend beyond immediate urban planning concerns.
