Hope Uzodimma Launches N1 Trillion Economic Agenda for Imo State
Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has unveiled a comprehensive economic agenda aimed at establishing a N1 trillion economy in the state. This initiative includes the upcoming Global Economic Summit and Tourism Revival Projects scheduled for December 4-5, 2025, in Owerri. During a recent address, Uzodimma emphasized that these economic and cultural initiatives are designed to position Imo State as a significant hub at both national and international levels.
The Governor outlined plans for a World Investment and Economic Summit that will feature notable global leaders, including Boris Johnson, the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, and President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria. He expressed optimism about the summit’s potential to showcase Imo State on the global stage. “It is a thing of joy; we want to announce Imo State to the world,” Uzodimma stated.
Uzodimma also addressed challenges facing the state, particularly regarding the ongoing Light Up Imo Project. He warned that any individuals obstructing this initiative would not deter his administration’s efforts to connect the state’s electrical infrastructure to the national grid. “We cannot spend billions on power infrastructure and fail to distribute electricity to our people,” he said, adding that decisive actions would be taken soon.
In addition to the summit, Imo State will host the Ahiajoku Lecture Series on November 27-28, 2025, a cultural event that has been a legacy since the tenure of former Governor Sam Mbakwe. Uzodimma highlighted the importance of this festival as a key tourist attraction and a vital component of the state’s economic revival. “This monument will be one of the key tourist indicators of our State economy,” he noted, urging public participation.
The Governor acknowledged that prior insecurity and political interference had delayed progress on these initiatives. He condemned acts of vandalism against public property, including a recent incident involving unauthorized alterations to government infrastructure. “Government property is not anybody’s property. Conduct is part of success,” he stated, calling for responsible citizenship among residents.
Uzodimma detailed ongoing efforts to strengthen Imo’s public sector, emphasizing the necessity of functional schools, hospitals, and infrastructure as the backbone of economic prosperity. He pointed out that even significant wage increases cannot substitute for the affordability provided by functional public services. “If our schools and hospitals work, a civil servant can run a household comfortably,” he said.
As part of his commitment to improving the state’s power supply, Uzodimma reiterated his determination to overcome any federal-level political obstacles that hinder the connection of completed power infrastructure to the national grid. He urged citizens to prioritize collective interests over personal or political differences, underscoring the importance of unity for the future of Imo State.
