A man from Pwllheli has received a fine after admitting to a charge of racial harassment at a local supermarket. Iwan Jones, aged 48, appeared before the Caernarfon Magistrates’ Court on July 24, 2023, following an incident that took place at the Asda store in Pwllheli on August 19, 2022. Initially, Jones had pleaded not guilty to the charge but changed his plea to guilty shortly before the trial was set to begin.

During the proceedings, a related charge of using threatening behaviour was withdrawn by the prosecution. The magistrates subsequently imposed a fine of £324 on Jones. In addition to the fine, he is required to pay costs totalling £400 to the Crown Prosecution Service.

The incident has drawn attention to issues of racial harassment in public spaces, highlighting the ongoing need for community awareness and legal accountability. The court’s decision emphasizes the seriousness with which such offences are treated in the legal system.

As the case concludes, it serves as a reminder of the importance of respectful conduct in public settings and the legal repercussions of failing to uphold these standards.
