Former Apple Employee Critiques iPhone Air Launch on Social Media

Apple Inc. launched its highly anticipated iPhone 17 lineup on September 19, 2023, introducing innovative features and designs. Among the new models is the iPhone 17 Air, which the company has marketed as its “slimmest phone” to date. However, a former Apple employee has voiced strong criticism, suggesting that consumers may want to reconsider purchasing this model.

Tyler Morgan, who previously worked at Apple and now shares technology insights on social media, expressed his doubts about the iPhone 17 Air in a TikTok video. He stated that there is “no reason” for consumers to choose this model over the standard iPhone 17. Morgan remarked, “It’s literally just the 17 with one less camera, a Pro chip, because they have to have a reason to charge you £999.”

In his critique, Morgan highlighted several shortcomings of the iPhone Air. He pointed out that the model has a “worse battery” and the same front camera as the standard iPhone 17. Additionally, he noted that it lacks USB 3 support and offers inferior wireless charging capabilities, with a maximum output of 20 watts compared to 25 watts for the base model.

Morgan further emphasized his belief that the iPhone Air is aimed at consumers who want to showcase a new device rather than those seeking functional improvements. He suggested that anyone considering spending £999 would be better off with the iPhone 17 Pro Max, which retails for £200 more but offers significant enhancements.

According to Apple’s official comparison, the iPhone 17 Pro Max features a larger 6.9-inch display and a bigger battery, providing up to 37 hours of video playback. In contrast, the iPhone 17 Air offers 27 hours. The Pro Max also includes two additional cameras: an Ultra Wide 48MP and a Fusion Telephoto camera, which promise improved photo quality.

For users who require substantial storage, the iPhone 17 Pro Max offers up to 2TB of space, compared to the 1TB provided by the Air. Apple’s promotional materials describe the iPhone Air as featuring an “impossibly thin and light design” alongside “innovative camera experiences” and “remarkable all-day battery life.”

While the sleek design of the iPhone Air may appeal to some consumers, the debate among Apple enthusiasts continues regarding the value of this model compared to its Pro counterparts.

The complete lineup of the new iPhone models is now available for purchase, allowing consumers to explore the various options and features that Apple has introduced for this year.
