Police Arrest Podgorica Man in Ongoing Operation “Lugansk”
In a significant development in the ongoing Operation “Lugansk,” the Danilovgrad Police have arrested a 57-year-old man identified as Ž.O. from Podgorica. He faces serious charges related to the illegal possession and carrying of firearms and explosives. The operation, which has been executed over the past few months, involves both civilian and military security sectors in Montenegro.
The police conducted a search of Ž.O.’s residence in Podgorica, leading to the discovery of a CZ-brand pistol, 50 rounds of ammunition, and two magazines, all found in unlawful possession. Following the collection of evidence, Ž.O. was detained under the direction of the prosecutor’s office. This arrest is part of a broader initiative aimed at combating organized crime and enhancing public safety in the region.
Details of Operation “Lugansk”
The operation, named “Lugansk,” is a result of robust inter-institutional cooperation, coordinated by the Higher State Prosecutor’s Office in Podgorica. It has involved collaboration with personnel from the Intelligence-Security Directorate of the Ministry of Defence and the Basic State Prosecutor’s Office in Podgorica.
In earlier phases of this operation, the police apprehended other individuals, including Danko Savić (61) from Danilovgrad, suspected of participating in foreign armed formations. Additionally, a 74-year-old man, Dejan Braletić, also from the same area, was detained for similar charges of illegal possession of weapons and explosives.
The extensive operation has seen law enforcement officials conduct searches at 13 locations across Nikšić, Danilovgrad, and Podgorica. These efforts have resulted in the seizure of 24 firearms, over 1,000 rounds of various types and calibers of ammunition, knives, swords, bayonets, uniforms, flags, and other insignia associated with armed groups.
This crackdown is indicative of Montenegro’s commitment to addressing security threats and enhancing the effectiveness of its law enforcement agencies. The authorities continue to urge the public to cooperate in reporting any suspicious activities that may indicate illegal arms possession or related crimes.
