Adnan Striković Criticizes PES Lawmakers Over Annexation Claims

Adnan Striković, the Vice President of the Socijaldemokratska partija (SDP) and a representative of the Evropski savez (ES), has publicly criticized members of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (PES) for their use of the term “annexation” in political discourse. He argues that the term does not inherently imply violence or coercion.

In a post on the platform X, Striković emphasized the importance of understanding the historical context surrounding annexation. He referenced two significant historical events: the annexation of South Tyrol to Italy in 1919, which was conducted with public consent via a referendum, and the incorporation of Hawaii into the United States in 1959, when it became the 50th state.

Striković stated, “One must be literate and aware that the term annexation does not necessarily imply violence,” highlighting that historical precedents show various forms of annexation can occur peacefully and with mutual agreement. He conveyed concern that the motives behind the PES lawmakers’ rhetoric could be perceived as both transparent and dangerous.

In his remarks, Striković sought to clarify the distinction between different forms of annexation, noting that not all instances should be viewed through a lens of aggression.
