The community of Pontardawe is in mourning following the untimely passing of Nicola Owen, a beloved head chef at Pontardawe Rugby Club, who died at the age of 41 on January 22. Nicola had recently been diagnosed with cancer, a battle she faced with remarkable courage. She is survived by her 18-year-old son, Charlie, her partner Mal Jones, and her mother Sian. The club extended their condolences to Nicola’s family, stating, “Our kitchen and our club will never be the same. Nicola has left a massive hole in our hearts, and her absence will be felt every single day.” They concluded with a touching farewell: “Rest in peace, Nicola. You will always be part of us.”

Nicola’s funeral is scheduled for February 11. The service will take place at St Peter’s Church in Pontardawe, followed by interment at Coedgwilym Cemetery in Clydach. For those unable to attend, Nicola will make her final journey past familiar landmarks, including The Castle pub and the rugby club.

In a poignant gesture, all women attending the funeral are encouraged to wear a splash of color, reflecting the vibrant spirit that Nicola exuded throughout her life.
