Liam Gallagher Honors Ricky Hatton 17 Years After Iconic Tribute
Liam Gallagher has expressed deep sorrow following the passing of boxer Ricky Hatton, marking the occasion 17 years after he and his brother, Noel Gallagher, famously carried the champion’s title belts into the ring. Gallagher took to social media to share his heartfelt tribute, reflecting on the honor of knowing Hatton.
On Sunday morning, police found Ricky Hatton’s body at his £1.75 million mansion in Hyde, Greater Manchester. Officials confirmed that the death is not being treated as suspicious. Hatton’s unexpected passing comes just months after he announced a comeback fight against Eisa Al Dah, scheduled for December 2, 2023, in Dubai.
In his tribute on X, Gallagher wrote, “Absolutely devastated to hear the news about RICKY HATTON. It was an absolute honour to know him and carry his belts. RIP CHAMP LIVE FOREVER LG x.” The emotional response from the community highlights Hatton’s significant impact on the sport and his legacy as a beloved figure in Manchester.
Ricky Hatton’s Boxing Legacy
Ricky Hatton, who won world titles in both light-welterweight and welterweight divisions, had a storied career that spanned 15 years. He faced some of the sport’s greatest fighters, including Kostya Tszyu and Jose Luis Castillo, achieving remarkable victories. His career, however, was also marked by notable losses to superstars such as Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2007 and Manny Pacquiao in 2009.
In recognition of his contributions to boxing, Hatton was awarded an MBE in 2007. After retiring from professional fighting, he transitioned into a role as a boxing promoter and trainer, continuing to influence the sport he loved.
