Nollywood actress and filmmaker Toyin Abraham Ajeyemi has achieved a remarkable milestone with her film Oversabi Aunty, which has surpassed the ₦1 billion mark at the box office. This accomplishment makes it the first Nollywood directorial debut to reach this financial milestone and positions it as the fourth highest-grossing Nollywood film of all time.

The film’s distributor, FilmOne Entertainment, announced that Oversabi Aunty has generated ₦1,017,201,953 from cinemas across West Africa. The film continues to screen in Nigeria and select cinemas in the United Kingdom, with planned releases in the United States and Canada.

In a celebratory message posted on X, FilmOne Entertainment stated, “Can somebody say WORLD BEST for a REASON!!!! The real Bestie Jesu!!!! N1 BILLION+ at the box office. First Nollywood directorial debut to hit #1 BILLION. 4th highest grossing Nollywood film of all time. West Africa, this is a full celebration!!! OVERSABI AUNTY still showing in cinemas nationwide in select cinemas in the UK and is coming to the USA and Canada soon.” A promotional poster shared alongside the announcement echoed the sentiment, thanking West Africa for its support.

Expressing her gratitude, Abraham took to X, stating, “Thank you GOD. Thank you Toyintitans. Thank you Nigerians. Thanks to my cast. Thanks to my crew. Thank you FilmOne. Thank you everyone. I’m short of words. Oversabi Aunty to the world and still showing in cinemas near you. My first directorial debut on the big screen. Thank you, thank you, thank you.”

This film marks Abraham’s first directorial project and has continued to attract audiences weeks after its release. Its commercial success highlights the growing influence of Nollywood within the West African film market, where locally produced films increasingly vie for audience attention and box office revenue against international releases.

As plans for expansion into North America are already underway, Oversabi Aunty is anticipated to extend its box office run even further. The film’s performance not only reinforces the popularity of Nollywood but also illustrates the potential for local productions to thrive on a global stage.

Abraham’s debut as a director signals a significant moment for the Nigerian film industry, as it continues to evolve and garner recognition both regionally and internationally. With screenings ongoing and future releases planned, the film is poised to make an even greater impact in the coming months.
