Two men face serious charges connected to the alleged rape of a 12-year-old girl in Nuneaton, Warwickshire. Ahmad Mulakhil, 23, was arrested on July 26, 2023, and charged the following day with rape. He appeared in court at Coventry Magistrates’ Court and has been remanded in custody. Another suspect, Mohammad Kabir, also 23, was arrested on July 27 and is charged with kidnap, strangulation, and aiding and abetting rape of a girl under 13. He, too, has been remanded in custody following his appearance in the same court on July 29.

Both men are set to appear at Warwick Crown Court on August 26. The allegations have prompted a significant police investigation, and officers are appealing for information. They request anyone who was in the Cheveral Street area between 20:30 and 21:45 on July 22 to come forward if they witnessed anything relevant. Information can be provided by calling 101 and quoting incident number 418 of July 22.

Warwickshire Police have acknowledged a report by the Mail on Sunday stating that both Mulakhil and Kabir are asylum seekers. The police clarified that their policy does not include sharing details about an individual’s ethnicity or immigration status once charges are made. In a statement, they emphasized their commitment to community engagement, stating, “Our neighbourhood officers work every day with local community partners.”

The force further explained their approach to sensitive information, noting that briefings to community partners and local officials are conducted with care to protect ongoing investigations and court proceedings. They reiterated their dedication to holding offenders accountable and presenting a strong case to the courts.

This case has garnered significant attention, raising concerns within the local community. Police have reassured residents that they are actively working on the investigation and encourage anyone with information to assist in bringing justice for the alleged victim.
