Police in Liverpool are investigating a reported rape that occurred in the city centre. The incident, which took place on July 25, 2023, was reported just before 5 a.m. on Temple Lane. Detectives have released CCTV images of a man they wish to speak to regarding the case, hoping he may provide valuable information to aid their inquiry.

Details of the Incident

The victim, a man in his 20s, is currently receiving ongoing support from specialist officers as the investigation progresses. This support is part of a broader commitment by the police to ensure the well-being of those affected by such traumatic experiences.

Detective Constable Alexa Collins emphasized the seriousness with which the police approach reports of sexual offences. “We take reports of sexual offences very seriously and we are very keen to speak with the person featured in the images to help with our enquiries,” she stated. “This was an extremely traumatic experience for the victim, and we are working hard to ensure the person responsible is identified.”

Public Appeal for Assistance

The police have urged the individual in the CCTV footage to come forward, as well as anyone who may recognize him. “We hope this man can come forward to assist with our enquiries or that others may recognize him and provide this information to the police,” Collins added.

Authorities are also encouraging anyone who has experienced sexual assault or rape to access the free specialist support services available. These services do not require a police report or referral and can provide confidential discussions for individuals considering making a report.

Merseyside Police reiterated their commitment to supporting victims throughout the investigation and court processes. “If you do decide to report to Merseyside Police, you will receive support throughout the investigation and court processes,” the force stated.

As the investigation continues, Liverpool residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any information that might assist police efforts. The community’s cooperation is vital in addressing and preventing such serious crimes.
