Pressure Mounts on Ruben Amorim as Manchester United Struggles

The pressure on Ruben Amorim intensifies following a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Manchester City on October 29, 2023. As Manchester United’s struggles continue this season, former captain Gary Neville suggests that the manager’s position will be scrutinized further if the team fails to secure a win against Chelsea next weekend.
In the recent Manchester derby, United faced a formidable City squad that had lost its previous two matches. Despite some brief moments of promise early in the match, with a strong start in the first 15 minutes and a renewed effort at the beginning of the second half, United could not capitalize. A goal from Phil Foden in the first half, followed by a pair of strikes from Erling Haaland, sealed United’s fate.
United’s performance this season has been underwhelming, with only one victory to their name—a narrow 3-2 win over newly promoted Burnley. The team also suffered a shocking exit from the League Cup, losing to Grimsby Town, a League Two side. These results have led to one of the club’s worst seasons in the Premier League era, raising significant concerns about Amorim’s ability to lead the team effectively.
Neville expressed his thoughts on the situation during a segment on Sky Sports. He stated, “I think there will be some pressure applied to the manager and his rigidity of sticking with the system. City have beaten them well and comfortably. There have been times when I have seen United lose this type of match when I feel angry and frustrated. I just feel nothing, which is even worse.”
Further emphasizing the gravity of the upcoming match against Chelsea, Neville noted that another defeat would lead to serious questions regarding Amorim’s future.
After the match, Amorim addressed the media, acknowledging the need for change if the team’s current performance level persists. “If United want to change their playing style, they will have to change manager,” he remarked. He expressed his commitment to his philosophy, stating, “When I want to change my philosophy, I will change. If not, you have to change the man. My message is that I am going to give everything. I will do everything, always thinking about what is best for the club.”
As the situation develops, fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see how Manchester United responds in their upcoming match against Chelsea, scheduled for November 4, 2023. The outcome could prove pivotal for both Amorim and the club’s direction this season.
