Coleg Cambria Hosts Events to Strengthen Inclusion Efforts
Coleg Cambria has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) by hosting a series of impactful events aimed at enhancing collaborative efforts among staff. These initiatives served as platforms for sharing innovative practices, reflecting on current methodologies, and celebrating the strides made in creating an inclusive environment.
Engaging Staff through Innovative Events
Two key activities were facilitated by Miranda Hazell, Specialist Teacher and Lead on Inclusion Training, alongside Alice Churm, Fairness and Belonging Lead. The Inclusion Roadshow allowed staff from various campuses to present their innovative approaches to inclusive practices. Curriculum and support teams showcased interactive displays, emphasizing strategies designed to eliminate barriers to learning. These efforts aim to cultivate a culture rooted in kindness, respect, and belonging.
In parallel, the Progressing Equality Conference equipped the college’s progress coaches with practical tools to weave inclusion into everyday interactions with students. Participants examined how consistent, small actions can significantly influence learners’ experiences, ensuring they feel “encouraged, empowered, and enabled.”
Reflecting on these initiatives, Lizzie Stevens, Director of Inclusion and Progress, commended the collective efforts of the staff. She stated, “These events demonstrate how our staff are working collectively to create environments where all learners can flourish. It is not just about policies or one-off projects, but about embedding inclusion into everything we do—from teaching and learning to wellbeing and support. By sharing good practice, listening to learners, and challenging ourselves to do more, we are building a college culture where everyone feels they belong and can achieve their full potential. That is what true inclusion means, and it is at the heart of Coleg Cambria.”
Looking Ahead: Future Initiatives
Building on the momentum generated from these events, Coleg Cambria has announced the planning of its first Inclusion Education Conference, set to take place towards the end of the academic year. This expo will gather educators, practitioners, and sector leaders to exchange research, highlight innovative practices, and celebrate advancements in inclusive learning, wellbeing, and equality.
Coleg Cambria invites expressions of interest from educators, organizations, and partners who wish to attend or contribute to the 2026 conference. Interested parties can reach out via email at [email protected].
