Montenegro’s Vukotic and Cakovic Triumph at World Jiu-Jitsu Championships
Montenegro’s athletes, Stefan Vukotic and Lidija Cakovic, achieved remarkable success at the World Jiu-Jitsu Championships held in Bangkok, Thailand. The duo clinched the title in the mixed show discipline, marking a significant milestone for Montenegrin sports.
Prior to their championship victory, Vukotic and Cakovic earned a bronze medal in the duo show category. Their triumph in Bangkok came against strong competitors from countries with rich traditions in this sport, including the host nation, Thailand, as well as Austria and Italy.
Coach Highlights Significance of the Win
Their coach, Ranko Vukotic, expressed pride in their accomplishments, describing the victory as “an achievement that transcends the boundaries of sport and serves as an inspiration for an entire generation of young fighters in Montenegro.” He emphasized the emotional weight of their success, stating, “After yesterday’s bronze, which felt like gold to me, they have now demonstrated that they can defeat even the Thai national team, the home of the duo show discipline.”
Vukotic noted that this victory is the culmination of their hard work, following previous championships where they were also crowned European champions. He stated, “This is the pinnacle of everything, after the World Games and the European Championship.”
Upcoming Challenges and Additional Achievements
Despite their recent success, the athletes have little time to celebrate. Vukotic and Cakovic are set to compete again in Bangkok, this time in the duo classic discipline, where their coach anticipates another standout performance.
In addition to Vukotic and Cakovic’s accolades, another Montenegrin competitor, Arso Milic, also secured a bronze medal in the men’s battles in the under 94-kilogram category, further highlighting Montenegro’s growing presence in the sport.
As these athletes continue to excel on the international stage, their achievements not only elevate their own careers but also inspire future generations in Montenegro.
