Former Nigerian President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan shared reflections on his political ascent during the celebration of Dr. Reuben Abati‘s 60th birthday. Speaking at a book launch dedicated to Abati, who has served as a prominent journalist and former presidential spokesman, Jonathan described his swift rise from deputy governor to president within just four years as “a political miracle,” attributing this rapid advancement to divine intervention.

During his address, Jonathan emphasized the extraordinary nature of his political journey, stating, “My political journey looks like a political miracle. From deputy governor to become the president of this country under four years was a miracle. It’s only God that made it possible.” His comments resonated with the audience, highlighting the significance of faith in his life and career.

Jonathan expressed his appreciation for Abati’s work, particularly his book, *How Goodluck Jonathan Became President*, which documents the former president’s life and political experiences. “I always like people who write about me because sometimes it’s so difficult for you to even write about yourself,” Jonathan remarked. “When people write about you, it makes more meaning. I’ll be very interested to read how Goodluck Jonathan became president from back to back.”

Reflecting on their first meeting in 2010, Jonathan recalled how Abati’s review of a compilation of his Facebook posts left a lasting impression. “When I looked through that review, I said this is somebody that has something upstairs. It showed that you are a scholar, brainy and intelligent person,” he noted, praising Abati’s analytical skills.

As he celebrated Abati’s milestone, Jonathan conveyed his best wishes: “You are celebrating your diamond jubilee today with your beautiful wife, and I say happy birthday to my younger brother and good friend, Reuben Abati. You have achieved significantly from all the testimonies we’ve heard. We pray you continue doing so for the next 60 years before you get to the biblical 120.”

In addition to personal anecdotes, Jonathan praised Abati’s contributions to journalism and public communication. He acknowledged how Abati’s work has sparked important national conversations. “I thank you for contributing to knowledge,” he added. “You served with me very well, and I have to appreciate that. You’re like a younger brother to me.”

The event drew a number of dignitaries, including Governor Alex Otti, former Governor Gbenga Daniel, and Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, all of whom joined Jonathan in honoring Abati. The occasion was described as “a fitting tribute to a man of intellect, service, and patriotism,” reflecting the high regard in which Abati is held in both journalistic and political circles.

In a world where political narratives often overshadow personal stories, Jonathan’s reflections serve as a reminder of the human experiences that shape leadership. His comments not only illuminate his own journey but also celebrate the enduring impact of those who document and influence the political landscape.
