Candace Owens Faces Allegations of Fabricating Kirk Texts
Controversy erupts as Candace Owens is accused of falsifying leaked text messages allegedly from the late conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The situation gained traction after Owens shared supposed iMessages on social media, claiming they revealed Kirk accusing fellow commentator Ben Shapiro of attempting to sabotage their careers. Analysts, however, are questioning the authenticity of the screenshots, suggesting they may be digitally fabricated.
The allegations stem from an online post by Owens, who released what she claimed were private messages from Kirk dating back to 2018. The screenshots depicted Kirk allegedly stating that Shapiro, the founder of The Daily Wire and Young America’s Foundation, viewed Owens as his “slave” and wanted to “kill” their political momentum. Owens accompanied the images with a caption stating, “One of about 300 that I have,” insinuating she possesses extensive evidence against Shapiro.
Digital Scrutiny Unfolds
Following the post, the messages went viral, garnering support from Owens’ followers. Yet, skepticism quickly arose as digital analyst Frank McCormick, known online as @CBHeresy, challenged the validity of the screenshots. Using ChatGPT to analyze the images against established iMessage design metrics, McCormick concluded that the screenshots appeared to be “digitally fabricated mockups.”
McCormick detailed his findings, noting that the alleged texts displayed several inconsistencies with older iPhone interfaces, including spacing and typeface discrepancies. His analysis suggested the messages might have been imitations rather than genuine screenshots. Additionally, he noted that the linguistic patterns within the supposed conversation indicated that a single author could have crafted both sides of the dialogue.
“Candace Owens recently posted what she claims are more text messages from Charlie Kirk. After having ChatGPT analyze the images, I believe Candace fabricated them,” McCormick stated.
As McCormick’s findings gained attention, criticism of Owens intensified. Many labeled her actions as “embarrassing,” accusing her of creating misleading evidence to reignite personal feuds and increase engagement. Nonetheless, some of Owens’ supporters defended her, claiming the screenshots might still be authentic and suggesting that McCormick’s analysis was politically motivated.
Political Fallout and Implications
As of now, Owens has not directly responded to the allegations of forgery, though she continues to share messages that bolster her credibility. The timing of this incident has reignited discussions surrounding the long-standing rivalry between Kirk and Shapiro, both significant figures in right-wing media. Once allies, their relationship reportedly soured due to ideological and business differences.
This latest episode threatens to deepen existing divides among their shared audience, as followers grapple with whether the feud stems from personal egos or reflects broader fractures within the conservative movement. The controversy surrounding Owens has transcended mere text messages, highlighting a growing mistrust and competitiveness among conservative influencers who wield considerable online power.
As Owens faces mounting scrutiny, her situation serves as a cautionary tale about the importance of credibility in an age where digital evidence can be easily manipulated. The unfolding drama not only impacts the individuals involved but also raises questions about the integrity of information shared in the highly competitive landscape of modern media.
