Manager Jimmy Dean lauded his Spalding United team for their exemplary performance in a decisive 3-0 victory against Needham Market on Saturday. This win, part of the Southern League Premier Division Central, marked the Tulips’ second consecutive home triumph and extended their impressive record to just one loss in the last ten league matches.

The scoring opened with a goal from Bart Cybulski in the first half, followed by two goals from Jack Roberts, who demonstrated remarkable skill and composure. After a midweek victory against Kettering, the Tulips came into this match with renewed confidence, successfully countering the strong form shown by Needham, who had recently secured a striking 6-1 victory in their previous match.

Dean reflected on the team’s performance, stating, “We have controlled the majority of the game and it’s how we want a match to play out.” He acknowledged earlier concerns about conceding too many goals and noted adjustments made to the team’s setup that contributed to their success in the recent matches. “It was a fantastic win on Tuesday night, but we needed to elevate our game further with the ball, and I felt we did that,” he added.

Defensively, Spalding excelled, securing a second straight clean sheet despite playing without captain Liam Moore, who is serving a three-match suspension. Connor Johnson made a notable return from injury, strengthening the Tulips’ defense. Dean commended both Johnson and Lewis White, who has grown into his role during Johnson’s absence, for their performances. “Connor looked like the player we signed, and although there is still room for improvement, we must focus on the positives,” he remarked.

The breakthrough came in the 33rd minute, with Spalding’s patience paying off as they finally broke the deadlock. Dean emphasized the importance of composure, saying, “There was no desperation about us like there was against St Ives. We just need to focus on the next game and keep trying to pick up the points.”

As Spalding United continues to hold a strong position in the league, currently in second place, they will prepare to host Bury Town on Tuesday night. The team aims to maintain their momentum and secure another vital win as they pursue their objectives for the season.
