Robbie Williams and Gary Barlow Reunite for Tribute to Morrissey

Robbie Williams has reunited with former bandmate Gary Barlow for the first time in over a decade, collaborating on a new song dedicated to iconic singer Morrissey. This track is part of Williams’ upcoming album, titled *Britpop*, set to be released on October 10, 2023. Williams shared insights about the song, revealing its unique perspective: “It’s a song made by Robbie Williams and Gary Barlow about Morrissey,” he said.
The song’s narrative takes an unusual turn, as it is written from the viewpoint of an obsessive fan. Williams elaborated, explaining, “The reason I am considerate about him is because I am writing it from the point of view of a stalker. So it’s somebody that’s stalking Morrissey; he’s completely obsessed and in love with him.”
In addition to Barlow, the album features contributions from other notable artists. Coldplay’s Chris Martin has lent his talents, while Gaz Coombes of Supergrass has co-written several tracks with Williams. This collaboration marks a significant moment for Williams, who noted that *Britpop* embodies the music he wanted to create since his departure from Take That in 1995.
Reflecting on his musical journey, Williams admitted to feeling directionless for a period. Speaking at a Q&A event at London’s The Groucho Club, he remarked, “I’ve kind of been musically a bit aimless for a little while because I don’t really know what to do.” He acknowledged that he had spent the past 15 years looking back at his career, often chasing past successes. “And I just think with this album, if I am going to look backwards I might as well just clear the decks, go back to the start, and head off from there,” he stated.
As he prepares for the album’s release, the 51-year-old artist candidly addressed personal insecurities, particularly about his thinning hair. “The hair is powder and scaffolding because that’s thinning and it’s going, and I think about it every day,” he confessed. Despite this concern, Williams reminisced about his past iconic looks, particularly his signature bleach blonde hair and a red Adidas top, which he believes became emblematic of his early career.
Regarding his skincare routine, Williams admitted it is minimal, jokingly highlighting his struggles with self-care due to his ADHD. “Because I’ve got ADHD, my self-care is appalling, and so I have to remember to apply moisturiser, which I do have,” he explained.
To celebrate the release of *Britpop*, Williams will perform his smallest-ever ticketed show at London’s Dingwalls on October 9, 2023. This intimate performance is expected to be a special event for fans and marks a new chapter in Williams’ dynamic career.
