Thatcham Singing Coach Jamie Read Celebrates Two Decades of Success

Ex-West End performer Jamie Read is marking a significant milestone in his career as he celebrates 20 years of coaching singers in Thatcham. Known for his remarkable stage presence alongside renowned actors such as Judi Dench and Brian Blessed, Jamie began his journey as a singing coach in September 2005, following an international tour.
From modest beginnings, working with a small group of local singers, Jamie has expanded his impact to support hundreds of clients. His diverse roster includes recording artists, award-winning West End performers, and television celebrities. “I never imagined when I started out that I would have well-known performers travelling from London out to little old Thatcham to come and work with me!” Jamie reflects on his journey.
Transforming Lives Through Music
Over the past two decades, Jamie has been dedicated to helping individuals find their voice. He emphasizes the joy and privilege of witnessing transformations. “The last 20 years have given me the chance to help hundreds and hundreds of people own their voice,” he states. “That moment when someone sings a note they didn’t think they could, or steps into their power and lets go of the inhibitions and fear that are holding them back… it’s just magic, every time.”
His teaching experience extends to prestigious institutions, including the world-famous Italia Conti drama school, which boasts notable alumni such as Layton Williams from “Strictly” and West End star Sam Tutty. Jamie’s expertise and passion for music have established him as a sought-after mentor in the industry.
A Thriving Community of Singers
Jamie operates his private studio in the historic Old Bluecoat School in Thatcham, a setting he describes as wonderful for singing. In addition to individual coaching, he leads a Musical Theatre Choir from the Frank Hutchings Hall and conducted the choir during several dates on Gareth Malone’s UK tour last year.
The community response has been overwhelmingly positive, with many singers acknowledging the profound impact Jamie has had on their development. His commitment to nurturing talent and fostering confidence has made him a beloved figure in the local arts scene.
