Ford CEO Praises Max Verstappen as Key to Red Bull Partnership
Ford CEO Jim Farley has identified Max Verstappen as “one of the most important pillars” in the American automotive giant’s collaboration with Red Bull Racing. This partnership is set to unfold in the 2026 Formula One season, following the recent announcement of new engine and chassis regulations. Verstappen, a four-time world champion, secured his third victory of the 2025 season at the Monza Grand Prix, reinforcing his commitment to Red Bull amid speculation linking him to top rivals Aston Martin and Mercedes.
Verstappen’s contract with Red Bull extends until the end of 2028, and Farley emphasized that keeping the 27-year-old driver is crucial for the team’s success. During a meeting with Verstappen at Monza, Farley expressed admiration for the driver’s ability to provide stability in a high-pressure environment. “I think this is one of the most important pillars of foundation for the PU (power unit) success,” Farley told Sky Sports News. He added, “Talking to Max, we at Ford really have grown our respect for Max watching him this year. The way he has provided stability without drama in an environment where we’re all just trying to do our jobs. I can really see that in his eyes today versus last year.”
Strategic Shift and New Leadership
Currently, Red Bull utilizes Honda engines, but starting in 2026, the Japanese manufacturer will transition to Aston Martin. This shift adds urgency to Ford’s preparations as they re-enter Formula One, aiming to establish a competitive edge alongside new rivals like Audi and the 11th team, Caddy. Farley reiterated his confidence in the partnership, acknowledging the leadership of Laurent Mekies, who replaced Christian Horner as team principal in July.
“I came here because I’m a big believer in understanding things with your eyes and ears, and I can clearly see the impact Laurent has had,” Farley remarked. “He’s a technical person which is exactly right for this change in 2026. He’s absolutely the right leader. We are completely behind him, and I can really feel it with the team.”
Mekies, while addressing the challenges that lie ahead, referred to the Red Bull-Ford project as a “crazy” undertaking. However, he expressed confidence in the team’s capability to meet the demands of the upcoming season and the development of the new engine.
Looking Ahead to the Azerbaijan Grand Prix
As the excitement builds for the next race in the 2025 season, the Azerbaijan Grand Prix is scheduled to take place from September 19 to 21. This event marks a pivotal moment for both Verstappen and the Red Bull-Ford collaboration as they prepare to showcase their competitive edge on the international stage. The upcoming races will further highlight the evolving dynamics within Formula One, particularly as teams adapt to new regulations and technological advancements.
