Paisley’s Iconic Music Venue The Cave to Close After Ten Years

Staff at The Cave in Paisley expressed their deep sadness following the announcement that the beloved music venue will close its doors after a successful decade. The closure is set for Saturday, September 13, 2023, marking the end of an era for a location well-known for its vibrant live music scene.
In a heartfelt message posted on Facebook, the venue reflected on its journey over the past ten years. The statement read: “So, the Cave story ends in a few weeks. We can now tell you the Cave will close its doors for the final time as a live music venue on Saturday, September 13. What a bloody journey it has been! We have had highs, lows, and even COVID thrown into the mix. But what a blast.”
The announcement revealed the emotional toll of the decision, with the staff admitting they had “thrown everything into trying to keep things going.” They encouraged their patrons to “KEEP MUSIC LIVE,” emphasizing the importance of the music community that had flourished within their walls. The venue promised to host events leading up to the closure, hinting at “a wee something special” on the final night.
Local residents have expressed their sorrow over the impending closure. Marilyn Buchanan shared her sentiment, stating, “Paisley will be a sadder place without you. Times spent in the Cave are times well spent. Happy times, foot tapping, hip spinning, belting it out times.” Another local, Steven Lavery, reminisced, “One of my favourite venues over the many years of singing.”
Closure Following Auction Listing
The announcement of The Cave’s closure comes shortly after it was listed for auction with a guide price of £80,000. Auction House Scotland described the venue as having a “distinctive” interior and a “strong reputation” for live music events, thanks to its dedicated following. Mandi Cooper, managing director of Auction House Scotland, noted, “Whether you’re looking to open a lively music venue, launch a new hospitality concept, or invest in a well-positioned commercial unit, The Cave Bar offers excellent potential in one of Scotland’s fastest-growing town centres.”
Despite its popularity, the venue faced challenges that ultimately led to the decision to close. The staff, who have dedicated years to providing a platform for local and touring musicians, will host a farewell event on the final night to celebrate the community that has supported them.
The Cave has been more than just a pub; it has been a cultural hub in Paisley, bringing together music lovers from all walks of life. As the community prepares to bid farewell, the impact of its closure will be felt widely, marking the end of a significant chapter in the local music scene.
