ABC Deputy Lord Mayor Hosts Coffee Morning for Breast Cancer Charity
Councillor Jessica Johnston, Deputy Lord Mayor of ABC Council, held a successful coffee morning on March 15, 2024, to support the local breast cancer charity Pretty ‘n Pink. The event, hosted at Portadown Town Hall, brought together community members to enjoy refreshments and home-baked treats while contributing to the charity’s mission of assisting individuals and families impacted by breast cancer across Northern Ireland.
During the gathering, attendees had the opportunity to engage with one another and learn more about the vital services provided by Pretty ‘n Pink. A significant highlight of the morning was the planting of a tree in Edenvilla Park, dedicated to honoring those affected by breast cancer in the local community. Councillor Johnston described the tree-planting ceremony as “an honour,” expressing gratitude for the important work done by Pretty ‘n Pink.
“Thank you to Pretty ‘n Pink for all the vital work they do. Also a big thank you to everyone that supported our coffee morning in Portadown Town Hall,” she stated. This sentiment resonated with many attendees, who participated enthusiastically in the morning’s activities.
Local photographer Tony Hendron documented the event, capturing moments of joy and camaraderie among supporters. Among those present were Leanne Rooney, director of Pretty ‘n Pink, and Doug Beattie MC MLA, alongside community members including Julie Joyce, Roderick Joyce, and Marian Lynn.
The coffee morning not only provided a platform for community engagement but also raised awareness about the ongoing challenges faced by those affected by breast cancer. With the support of local leaders and dedicated volunteers, events like this continue to foster a sense of solidarity and hope within the community.
As the day came to a close, it was clear that the coffee morning was not just a fundraising event but a meaningful occasion that united people in support of a shared cause. The efforts of Councillor Johnston and all participants highlighted the importance of community involvement in addressing health issues that affect many families.
