Emirates Ends A380 Service to Copenhagen, Increasing Capacity
Emirates is set to withdraw its Airbus A380 flights from Copenhagen Kastrup Airport (CPH) to Dubai International Airport (DXB) by May 31, 2026. This change marks the end of an era for the iconic superjumbo in Denmark. Despite the A380’s departure, Emirates will enhance overall seating capacity on this route by shifting to two daily flights operated by smaller aircraft from its fleet.
The airline will replace its single daily A380 service with two flights using the Airbus A350 and Boeing 777, enabling it to cater to more passengers. This strategic move indicates Emirates’ intentions to boost connecting traffic through its Dubai hub. By having guests arrive from Copenhagen twice daily, the airline expands transit options significantly for international travelers.
Background on A380 Operations in Copenhagen
Emirates resumed A380 services to Copenhagen in January 2025, after a hiatus that began with the onset of the coronavirus pandemic in March 2020. The flights resumed just over a year ago, making Copenhagen the airline’s 21st destination in Europe served by the A380 and the 51st worldwide. The A380 operated on this route in a two-class configuration, featuring 58 lie-flat seats in Business Class and 557 seats in Economy Class, providing a comfortable travel experience for passengers.
Current scheduling data from Cirium indicates that the last A380 flight from Dubai to Copenhagen is scheduled for May 31, 2026. The existing flights throughout this year have consistently utilized the 615-seat layout, which emphasizes Emirates’ commitment to maintaining high capacity until the transition is complete.
Details of the Transition
Emirates’ daily flight EK151 is currently scheduled to depart from Dubai at 07:30 local time, arriving in Copenhagen at 12:30. This timing allows for convenient connections for passengers arriving on overnight flights. After a brief layover, flight EK152 departs Copenhagen at 14:45, arriving back in Dubai at 00:55 the following day, facilitating overnight transits.
From June 1, 2026, the airline will operate daily rotations with both the Airbus A350 and Boeing 777. The Boeing 777-300ER, which seats 421 passengers, will primarily be used for these flights. In contrast, the A350-900 accommodates 298 passengers. This change will result in a combined daily capacity of 719 seats in each direction, representing a 16.91% increase compared to the A380’s configuration.
Although the Boeing 777-200LR, with a capacity of 302 seats, will replace the 777-300ER in December, Emirates’ overall strategy appears focused on optimizing capacity and enhancing passenger options on the route.
The transition away from the A380 in Copenhagen is indicative of broader trends within the aviation industry, as airlines adapt to changing demands and seek operational efficiencies. Emirates’ decision to increase frequency while maintaining an overall increase in capacity underscores its commitment to providing quality service and connectivity for its passengers.
