Rate My Takeaway Host Danny Malin Departs Amid Ownership Dispute
Danny Malin, the host of the popular YouTube food review channel Rate My Takeaway, has announced his departure from the company following an ownership dispute. Malin created the channel during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic in the UK as a light-hearted way to showcase local takeaways while restaurants were closed. His unique format, which features him ordering takeaways and tasting them at a folding table, resonated with viewers, leading to millions of views and nearly 750,000 subscribers over five years.
In a video uploaded to his Mr and Mrs Yorkshire channel on September 6, 2023, Malin explained the reasons behind his exit. He indicated that, despite being the face of Rate My Takeaway, he was not treated as an equal partner in the business. He expressed frustration over a lack of access to certain resources and responsibilities, stating, “I’ve always said that it’s three of us, that we split things equally… but from day one I’ve struggled to achieve that.”
During the nine-minute video, Malin hinted at potential legal action related to the dispute, suggesting that the fallout might not be over. He remarked, “I can only go into so much detail… because I believe there’ll be legal action on the way.” Despite the conflict, he conveyed heartfelt gratitude to his fans, acknowledging their support as “absolutely amazing.” He stated, “Thank you very much from the bottom of my heart for all the support, the kind messages, the chats we’ve had in the street, and the good times we’ve had. It’s been absolutely amazing.”
The departure from Rate My Takeaway marks a significant transition for Malin, yet he assured fans that this is not the end of his career. He plans to continue producing content on the Mr and Mrs Yorkshire channel and has hinted at new food-related projects in the future. “I love creating content… it just needs to evolve,” he explained, leaving fans eager for what’s next.
As Malin steps away from his role at Rate My Takeaway, his journey highlights the complexities of partnerships in the digital content space. The situation serves as a reminder of the challenges content creators face when navigating ownership and collaboration in a rapidly evolving industry.
