England’s Best Curry House Awarded to Sher Khan in Alnwick
The prestigious title of the best curry house in England has been awarded to Sher Khan, located in the small market town of Alnwick, Northumberland. This recognition comes from the English Curry Awards 2025, which celebrated the finest curry establishments across the nation, highlighting both small and large restaurants for their authentic and flavorful offerings.
Sher Khan emerged victorious in a competitive field, securing the Curry Restaurant of the Year prize not only for its overall excellence but also for being the best in the North East region. The awards ceremony took place in Birmingham this week, marking the event’s 14th year of honoring the culinary talents that have become integral to the British dining scene.
Local patrons have praised Sher Khan for its exceptional food and service. One enthusiastic reviewer commented, “The best curry we have had in years. Service was excellent and the staff super friendly. I’d totally recommend for great food and a relaxed sophisticated night out. Great value for money.” Another reviewer echoed this sentiment, stating, “The service was excellent, with all the waiting staff being pleasant and attentive. They made really good recommendations, and we appreciated that. The food was all excellent.”
The restaurant offers a wide-ranging menu featuring traditional Indian dishes, with prices designed to appeal to a broad audience. Starters are priced from £3.95, while main courses average around £10, making it an attractive option for both locals and visitors.
Regional Winners Showcase Culinary Diversity
The English Curry Awards also recognized outstanding curry houses in various regions throughout the country. In the North West, Aroma Asian Restaurant in Burnley took home the top prize, while Khandan Restaurant in Wellington was named the best in Yorkshire and Humber. Spice Valley in Norwich was honored as the Curry Restaurant of the Year in the East of England, with Everest Lounge in Market Harborough winning for the East Midlands.
Other regional winners included Lavang in Solihull for the West Midlands and Spice Route in Andover for the South East. The South West award went to Mattancherry in Taunton. In major cities, notable establishments were recognized as well. London’s best curry house is Masala Inn in Bexleyheath, while Spice n Spirits claimed the title in Manchester.
The awards reflect the growing popularity of curry houses across England, which have become a staple in many communities. With a rich variety of flavors and dishes, these restaurants not only cater to local tastes but also celebrate the cultural diversity inherent in British cuisine. The recognition of Sher Khan as the best in the country further underscores the importance of regional culinary traditions and the passion behind each dish served.
