Milan Vujanovic, the former chief of the Podgorica Security Centre, was unable to attend a scheduled hearing of the Anketni odbor (Inquiry Committee) in the Montenegrin Assembly due to health issues. His absence raised questions as the committee continues its investigation into the so-called “black troikas” case, related to serious allegations of corruption and crime in Montenegro.

In a message to the committee, Vujanovic provided medical documentation explaining his condition. He noted that he had previously testified during trials in 2005 and 2014 regarding the murder of journalist Dusko Jovanovic, a topic he was expected to address again during this session.

“I will inform you once my health improves, so the hearing can take place,” Vujanovic stated, emphasizing his willingness to cooperate with the inquiry.

Calls for Further Testimonies

The absence of Vujanovic prompted comments from Momcilo Lekovic, a member of the Anketni odbor and a representative of the Democratic Party. Lekovic suggested that Vujanovic’s earlier testimony directed attention towards Vesna Medenica, the former Chief State Prosecutor.

“Perhaps this will give us the opportunity to hear from her in the near future. Medenica has previously stated that she knows a lot and has much to say, so I urge her to speak up,” Lekovic remarked, referencing Medenica’s knowledge of Jovanovic’s murder and other serious cases.

The proposal for Vujanovic to testify was initially put forward by Milan Knezevic, co-chair of the committee. Knezevic has indicated he will no longer propose candidates for hearing sessions, as reported by the ETV Portal.

Next Steps for the Inquiry

In light of the developments, Gordan Stojovic from the Europe Now Movement suggested that the committee should next invite Ibrahim Cikic and Blagoje Zlaticanin for future hearings. The committee agreed to extend invitations for upcoming sessions, indicating a continued commitment to uncovering the truth behind the allegations being investigated.

As the inquiry progresses, the absence of key figures such as Vujanovic may impact the timeline and direction of the investigation. The Anketni odbor remains focused on gathering comprehensive testimonies to shed light on the complex issues surrounding corruption and crime in Montenegro.
