Albanian Man Arrested in Montenegro on Greek Interpol Warrant

An Albanian citizen was apprehended by the Montenegrin Border Police at the Grnčar border crossing while attempting to enter Montenegro. The individual, identified as A.S., aged 48, was arrested based on an international warrant issued by Interpol, following a request from Greek authorities.

According to the Montenegrin Police Directorate, A.S. is sought by Greece for multiple serious criminal offenses. During routine checks at the border, police officers confirmed his identity through records maintained in collaboration with the National Central Bureau (NCB) of Interpol in Podgorica. The warrant was issued by the NCB Interpol in Athens.

A.S. faces serious charges in Greece, including attempted murder, illegal possession of firearms, and armed robbery committed with accomplices. If convicted, he could face a prison sentence of up to 30 years. The legal proceedings against him are situated in the context of an ongoing criminal case before the Appeal Court in Larissa.

Following his arrest, the Montenegrin authorities communicated with their counterparts in Greece to confirm the details of the warrant. In a timely response, A.S. was handed over to the judicial authority in accordance with legal requirements. He is now in the custody of the investigative judge at the Higher Court in Bijelo Polje, where the process for his extradition will be determined.
