EasyJet Flight Diverts to Gatwick Due to Passenger Emergency

A flight operated by easyJet from Manchester Airport to Alicante was diverted to London Gatwick just 30 minutes into its journey due to a serious passenger welfare issue. The incident occurred shortly after the flight took off at approximately 18:00 local time.

The aircraft initially flew southward over Birmingham and the south coast before making a U-turn over the English Channel, as tracked by FlightRadar24. Passengers were informed of the diversion and subsequently landed safely at Gatwick. EasyJet issued an apology, stating, “We’re very sorry that your flight has now been diverted to London Gatwick airport. This is due to a passenger welfare issue. The disruption to your flight is outside of our control and is considered to be an extraordinary circumstance.”

Previous Incident at Manchester Airport

This emergency follows a separate incident earlier in the month when two easyJet planes collided on the runway at Manchester Airport. On August 16, both aircraft sustained damage when their wing tips made contact while taxiing, leading to temporary flight suspensions as safety checks were performed. Passengers reported delays and were provided with refreshment vouchers while alternative arrangements were made.

One traveller described the chaotic scene, saying, “Just on the plane at Manchester Airport and another plane has just hit our wing and took the wing off.” EasyJet confirmed that the two aircraft involved returned to the terminal to disembark passengers, ensuring their safety remained the highest priority.

The airline has been under scrutiny for operational issues, particularly in the wake of travel disruptions this summer. Passengers are reminded that extraordinary circumstances, such as emergency diversions, can occur, affecting flight schedules and overall travel plans.
